Bridge Community Church is a large and very active Church based in the centre of Leeds. Originally built back during the First World War, today it stands in its new location providing facilities and services for all areas of the community.
The Church boasts a following of some 1,000 people from over 40 different nationalities, and their Sunday services can include up to 300 children. It is very much a community church and one of the founding churches for KIDZ KLUB Leeds and Leeds Faith In Schools. The church is also partner with Teen Challenge U.K. working with people who have addictions.
Bridge Community Church also partners with Horizon Life at their training centre in Killinghall which enables men to learn a trade and get some experience of working in the real world. The church has a Christians Against Poverty Centre and is very successful at helping many people out of crippling debt and into a new future. E.S.O.L. classes are another component of their community work and in addition the Church runs an Out Of School Club and Splashtime (a Mums and Tots Group) every morning Monday to Friday during school term.
David Kitchen, who has the key management role for Bridge Community Church talks about using Pegasus Opera in his busy day-to-day work. “We use Pegasus Opera 3 to produce our management accounts, as well as for general bookkeeping, cash book processing and preparing accounts.
“We deal with quite a lot of cash and cheque transactions in our Sunday services, particularly with offerings and other contributions, where we can deal with up to £10,000 in cash and cheques every week. Working in Opera 3 is relatively easy, I personally didn’t come from an accounting role when I joined the Church so I had to learn to use the system as part of my managerial role. It was a steep learning curve but the system is relatively easy to learn and meets all my management reporting functions as well as the accounting requirements for my colleague Richard Wilson. We have two users on the system and generally run Opera from an office base. I also have the flexibility of working remotely so I can access the system live and do all the work I need to do directly from home.”

“One of the key areas that I use the Opera 3 system is for reporting. We have the XRL module for this purpose. Using XRL is excellent, it is very useful, in fact I’d struggle if I didn’t have XRL to do the reporting required.
I use XRL to create reports required to be presented to the trustees – to do this I bring data straight from XRL into Excel to prepare reports including management accounts and month by month forecasting. It would certainly be a very laborious process without XRL.”

The Church has grown and developed within the community from its original location to its new setting in a more modern environment, with a greater scope for community services.
“In our new location and premises we are now also in the position to build on developing business revenue for the Church that we can put back into supporting the local community. We now offer part of the Church premises as an events venue. We also provide contract car parking. These two additional services bring a valuable additional income stream into the Church and require a more sophisticated accounting process for the setting up of business clients and related transactions.
For this purpose we added further modules to Opera 3 including Sales Ledger and Sales Invoicing, as these additional business services require invoices, statements, and business contract arrangements.
Bridge Community Church began on its current site in June 2016. However, we have been in the city of Leeds since around 1910. Our hearts desire is to see the people of Leeds and beyond experience the love and power of God for themselves.
