Can you remember back to the days when if someone asked you the above question they would have been referring to the financial status of your company! but in the month of July if you had a business in northern and central parts of England they may well have been referring to the nautical definition of the word "afloat". Either way both definitions could spell disaster for any business unfortunate enough to be caught up in a financial crisis or consumed by flood water; But by the same token both can be avoided with a little forward planning.
If like me you have been watching the devastation caused by the recent flooding on TV, you to will have seen the amount of SME businesses that have been left for want of a pun "High and Dry" due to the loss of business critical IT equipment and more so data. It is all down to the naturally human attitude of it will never happen to me. Well as we can now see it could happen to any business, most companies can cope with the loss of equipment, this can be replaced by your insurance company, but they cannot replace the data. So if you haven't thought of "Disaster Recovery Planning" don't put it off any longer, or else you could experience that sinking feeling.
Synergy Technology supply a complete range of Disaster Recovery solutions, from off site backup of data through to a complete disaster recovery suite which within 4 hours can accommodate 8 of your employees working with your date in a fully functioning office. Please read the article in this issue for more information, "Don't dice with disaster"
NOW THE COMPANY IS FLOATING, WATCH YOU DON'T DROWN IN ACRONYMS!
When doing the research for the article on DRP, I read a research note put out by "Info~Tech Research Group" who explained how to measure effective recovery in the event of disaster. One of the paragraphs read like this; "Using the right metrics. Recovery mechanisms such as RTO and RPO provide a more realistic evaluation of DPR requirements. MTTR & MTTF are more closely associated with RTO and RPO ...." . Oh buoy this brought me back to the days when I started in IT and all around me spoke in a language that I still don't understand full of acronyms. Well if you have the same problem then worry no more, I have found the web site to Answer All Your Question (AAYQ). WhatIS.com give it a visit your worries are all over never get that sinking feeling again.
